Dr. Sue Morter Retreat
(Reposted from the Love Without Traffic blog 5/10/24)
The Nosara jungle provided a 5 a.m. wakeup call for the start of Dr. Sue Morter’s retreat at The Bodhi Tree in Costa Rica. The howler monkeys laughed when I asked for a snooze button, but their chorus led me where I needed to be at the exact right moment.
Path To Healing
Carried by the Collective
Thanks to those monkeys, I arrived at the 108-step staircase to the Oceana Shala of the Bodhi Tree very early. My mind thought this time alone was just what I needed to attempt my upward hobble, but as usual, it was wrong.
What I needed was a cheerleading squad, composed of a few fellow retreat-goers who arrived just when I did.
“You’re faster than we are!” exclaimed one during the first moments of what would become a cherished friendship. Love and laughter carried me up the stairs; before I knew it, I was at the shala.
A spot close to the door beckoned, which provided a perfect view of the ocean and trees below, and an ability to bail on subsequent classes without being obvious. I’d made it up the stairs once but couldn’t imagine doing so again after breakfast.
I also couldn’t imagine doing much, if any, yoga. But I was nevertheless excited for my first in-person Body Awake Yoga class, a style of yoga I’d enjoyed since Dr. Sue Morter began teaching her classes online in 2020.
Grateful Yogi
I was one of just a few in attendance who hadn’t yet been with Dr. Sue in-person, or even with other members of the community, several of whom I’d built strong remote relationships with online.
Hugs were long and abundant, and the vibration of the room was off the charts. I’m no stranger to the power of a high vibrational collective and knew the energy field would be strong. But I didn’t expect it to be so powerful, it would help support my practice.
Assisted also by crystalline bowl and gong sound healing, and later music that tapped into my body’s ancient remembrance, my knee allowed asana after asana.
“This is impossible!” my mind thought as my body celebrated. Blissful gratitude smiled through a heart that was opening more widely by the moment.
I’d been practicing various forms of yoga for decades, and while I have been extremely grateful for all my teachers, classes and centers, I had never experienced such immense appreciation for the actual ability to be a yogi. That had always been a given; it was something I’d been taking for granted.
Now suddenly, even the ability to do child’s pose felt like one of the greatest blessings ever.
Time to Heal
While lying on my mat, I realized it had been too long since I’d been so present for a full shavasana. Lately, my mind had been convincing me of greater priorities than the most important part of class — and present part of my day!
When and how had Ms. Self-Care gotten into the habit of cutting classes short? As the analytical portion of my psychology-trained brain began to search for the answer, I realized the “why” was not important. Shavasana was back and I was never going to abandon it, and myself in the process, again.
I softened into a deep crystal bowl infused meditation, during which I experienced a download that led to deeper healing than I could have imagined.
Like myself, several retreat-goers were B.E.S.T. energy healing practitioners. BioEnergetic Synchronization Technique had already led to a plethora of physically and emotionally healing miracles, both as a healer and receiver of such. It had enhanced my life in countless ways. Of course it would help my knee!
A meditation image featured asking a mentor for a treatment. Dr. Lorri Mandekic has been practicing B.E.S.T. for decades and is someone I’d learned so much from in classes and forums. But I did not know her personally, and since we were all at the retreat to receive, we’d been asked not to give sessions.
When I saw her filling her water bottle after breakfast, I knew I nevertheless had to follow the guidance received in my meditation. She not only graciously said yes—she’d treat me in the next day or so—but she also invited me to join her for lunch.
That afternoon, as I delighted in her company, I realized just how much the knee injury had already blessed me with. Several beautiful new friendships had been birthed with people I likely would not have gotten to know another way.
The entire community had been so loving and supportive, and the retreat had only just begun!
I couldn’t have imagined that day what was soon to come—or the fact that just after the retreat completed, I’d be surfing and hiking my way through Costa Rica.
The miracles experienced that week would forever raise my possibility ceiling when it comes to healing, which has greatly enhanced my own practice as an energy healer. If the seemingly impossible happened for me, it could happen for anyone!
Stay tuned for more on Dr. Sue Morter’s amazing retreat and that life-changing B.E.S.T. treatment soon!
